All My Soul - #1

My searches on defining “loving God with all of my soul” lead me to believe that “my soul” is where my emotions, feelings, and affections are generated.

Loving God with all of my soul means:

I will worship, bless, and praise God everyday for who He is and all that He has done and given to me, giving glory to His name - Jesus.

And God spoke all these words, saying:
I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.”
– Exodus 20:1-6 NKJV

I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. – Psalm 139:14 NKJV

I will extol You, my God, O King;
And I will bless Your name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless You,
And I will praise Your name forever and ever.
Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised
;
And His greatness is unsearchable.
– Psalm 145:1-3 NKJV

Oh come, let us worship and bow down;
Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.
For He is our God,
And we are the people of His pasture,
And the sheep of His hand.
Today, if you will hear His voice:
- Psalm 95:6-7 NKJV

Just thinking about how God lovingly created me, how much he cares for me, how He is looking out for me, and how great He is just fills me with all kinds of emotion! I am just in awe of everything about Him. I want to express these feelings to Him everyday of my life. I want Him to know what He means to me. Worship, praise, and blessings to Him are ways that I can show my affection and gratefulness to Him.

Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which Is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. - Philippians 2:9-11 NKJV

I will worship toward Your holy temple, And praise Your name
For Your lovingkindness and Your truth
; For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.
– Psalm 138:2 NKJV

Give to the LORD the glory due His name;
Bring an offering, and come before Him.
Oh, worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness!
– 1 Chronicles 16:29 NKJV

Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. – Hebrews 13:15 NKJV

“that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.” – 2 Thessalonians 1:12 NKJV

We are given formal names at birth, but our family usually calls us by a more personal, endearing name. In business, we usually use our formal name, but when we want to be more personal with someone, we then tell them to call us by our personal name. Jesus is God’s personal name that He gave to us because He wanted to have a personal relationship with us. We show personal affection to Him when we worship, praise, and bless the name of Jesus! It is to God’s glory that we call on Him by the name of Jesus, which was His plan from the beginning (see this previous blog entry – “How does Jesus fit into the picture if there is only one God?”).

Bless the LORD, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!

Bless the LORD, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,
Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
– Psalm 103:1-5 NKJV

I show God that I love Him with all of my soul when I bless and praise Jesus for His forgiveness, His healing, His redemption, His love, His mercy, and all that He gives to me.
