All My Mind - #1

My searches on defining “loving God with all of my mind” lead me to believe that “my mind” is where my thoughts, plans, and desires are formed.

Loving God with all of my mind means:

I will focus my thoughts, plans, and desires on God and His Word by only allowing the things that please Jesus into my mind - through what I see and hear.

Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. – Colossians 3:2 NKJV

All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes,
But the LORD weighs the spirits.
Commit your works to the LORD,
And your thoughts will be established.
– Proverbs 16:2-3 NKJV

For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. – Romans 8:6-7 NKJV

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled. – 2 Corinthians 10:4-6 NKJV

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; - Ephesians 6:17 NKJV

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. – Hebrews 4:12-13 NKJV

When you are falling in love with someone, your mind is constantly thinking of them: planning the things you want to do with them, how you can get closer to them, and how you can show them how much you care about them. If you could know what they were thinking and the things that they like, then that would make pleasing them an easier task.

Jesus gave us everything we need to know in the Bible on how to please Him and to keep our minds focused on Him. It should be easy for us to understand His desires and plans, but sin and this world make it difficult for us. There is a constant battle going on for our minds. God gave us the weapon of His Word to help us take our thoughts captive. We have a choice to either listen to the world or to Jesus. We must guard against what we allow ourselves to see and hear, because that is direct input into our minds. My obedience and disobedience is directly linked to what I allow into my mind.

What I see:
The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness. Therefore take heed that the light which is in you is not darkness. If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, the whole body will be full of light, as when the bright shining of a lamp gives you light.” – Luke 11:34-36 NKJV

Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, and revive me in Your way. - Psalm 119:37 NKJV

And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire.” – Matthew 18:9 NKJV

What I hear:
For the ear tests words as the palate tastes food. – Job 34:3 NKJV

Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them. – Ephesians 5:6-7 NKJV

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. – Romans 10:17 NKJV

He also opens their ear to instruction,
And commands that they turn from iniquity.
If they obey and serve Him,
They shall spend their days in prosperity,
And their years in pleasures.
– Job 36:10-11 NKJV

He who planted the ear, shall He not hear?
He who formed the eye, shall He not see?
He who instructs the nations, shall He not correct,
He who teaches man knowledge?
The LORD knows the thoughts of man,
That they are futile.
Blessed is the man whom You instruct, O LORD,
And teach out of Your law
,
That You may give him rest from the days of adversity,
Until the pit is dug for the wicked.
For the LORD will not cast off His people,
Nor will He forsake His inheritance.
– Psalm 94:9-14 NKJV

You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. – Isaiah 26:3 NKJV

My commitment to Jesus is insincere if I don’t go directly to His Word to study and to hear from Him personally. I will be easily deceived if I don’t know what His Word teaches. I will be more obedient to Him if fill my eyes and ears with His Word. I will have more peace in my life if I stay focused on Him.

I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty, and on Your wondrous works. – Psalm 145:5 NKJV

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. – Philippians 4:8 NKJV

I show God that I love Him with all of my mind when I meditate on Jesus.
