In order to understand who the Holy Spirit is, I put into practice what I learned from "loving God with all my mind" by going to Jesus first to find out what He says about the Holy Spirit. I started my search on "Spirit" in the New Testament and found these scriptures where Jesus explained who the Spirit is and how He is my Helper:
I will ask the Father to give you another Helper, to be with you always. He is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, for it neither sees him nor recognizes him. But you recognize him, for he abides with you and will be in you. (Joh 14:16-17 ISV)
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of all that I have told you.
(Joh 14:26 ISV)
Yet when the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. For he will not speak on his own accord, but will speak whatever he hears and will declare to you the things that are to come.
(Joh 16:13 ISV)
So, the Holy Spirit is my Helper and my personal teacher of the truth. He is someone who I will know because He is with me always and lives in me. He will remind me, guide me, and speak to me, giving me the understanding of all truth that Jesus declared. Knowledge of the truth is the definition of wisdom, so that means the Holy Spirit teaches me the wisdom of God.
In my previous studies, I discovered that I show God I love Him by having a personal relationship with Jesus and that the two of them are One. Now, Jesus is saying that I should have a close, personal relationship with the Holy Spirit. So, how does the Holy Spirit fit into the equation to make one God? If Jesus was there from the beginning, then the Holy Spirit must have been there, too. What does the Old Testament say about God's wisdom? It was now time to do a search in the Old Testament to find these answers.

Time to get serious!
So, loving God with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength means to give all of my life over to Jesus. Surrendering my whole life to Him (past, present, and future) and everything that would require was a sobering thought for me. I started to feel overwhelmed and incapable of expressing this kind of love. I knew I was going to have to make a lot of changes in my life and I knew it would take a lot of discipline. I also knew it was not going to happen overnight, but no matter how long it took, it was time for me to really get serious about my commitment to Him.
The practice of loving God with my whole life would be worth it, though, because it would bring me into a closer relationship with Him. But that was only the first commandment! Studying the second commandment was going to show me how to love others the way Jesus did, but before I could study that, there was one more way to show God that I love Him with all my strength that I needed to learn. It was the last command that Jesus gave to His Disciples before ascending to Heaven.
Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.
(Mat 28:19-20 ASV)
In order for me to "go" and "make disciples", I needed to know the definition of a disciple. I believe a disciple is someone who is intimate with God, someone who knows God in His fullness (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) and is confident of his relationship with Him. A disciple is also someone who is practicing the obedience of all His commandments. I was well into the process of learning how to obey His commandments, and I had studied God as the Father and the Son, but it was time for me to study God as the Holy Spirit.
I discovered that I have a Helper, and His name is the Holy Spirit!
