Jesus knew that His Church, or wife, would divide herself into seven. Jesus explained to John that these seven churches were the seven golden lampstands that he was seeing in his vision. Jesus was in the midst of these seven lampstands. These seven cities had the light of Christ in them.
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden."
(Mat 5:14 ESV)
These seven cities, or seven women, would be very important to end times prophecy. But why seven? Well I believe God hid the reason in His Word and we were meant to search out the meaning.
It is the glory of God to conceal a thing; but the glory of kings is to search out a matter. (Pro 25:2 JPS)
My next search was to see if there was another example of "seven women" in the Bible. Using E-Sword, I found it in the book of Isaiah.
And seven women shall take hold of one man in that day, saying, "We will eat our own bread and wear our own clothes, only let us be called by your name; take away our reproach." In that day the branch of the LORD shall be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land shall be the pride and honor of the survivors of Israel. And he who is left in Zion and remains in Jerusalem will be called holy, everyone who has been recorded for life in Jerusalem, when the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and cleansed the bloodstains of Jerusalem from its midst by a spirit of judgment and by a spirit of burning. Then the LORD will create over the whole site of Mount Zion and over her assemblies a cloud by day, and smoke and the shining of a flaming fire by night; for over all the glory there will be a canopy. There will be a booth for shade by day from the heat, and for a refuge and a shelter from the storm and rain.
(Isa 4:1-6 ESV)
These seven women are the daughters of Zion. The man that they are hanging on to, the one whose name they want to be called by is JESUS. He is their Husband and He is the one who will cleanse the daughters of Zion and purge, judge, and purify Jerusalem. Mount Zion is where King Jesus will establish His home forever in His city, the New Jerusalem. So, the term "daughters of Zion" must mean that they are part of the New Jerusalem, the Bride of Christ, which the Church will be a part of when she is made new again. The daughters of Zion are redeemed citizens of the heavenly Jerusalem.
For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his dwelling place: "This is my resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I have desired it.
(Psa 132:13-14 ESV)
Thus says the LORD: I have returned to Zion and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem, and Jerusalem shall be called the faithful city, and the mountain of the LORD of hosts, the holy mountain.
(Zec 8:3 ESV)
Behold, the LORD has proclaimed to the end of the earth: Say to the daughter of Zion, "Behold, your salvation comes; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him." And they shall be called The Holy People, The Redeemed of the LORD; and you shall be called Sought Out, A City Not Forsaken. (Isa 62:11-12 ESV)
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
(Zec 9:9 ESV)
And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, "Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey's colt!"
(Joh 12:14-15 ESV)
But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. See that you do not refuse him who is speaking. For if they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape if we reject him who warns from heaven. At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, "Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens." This phrase, "Yet once more," indicates the removal of things that are shaken--that is, things that have been made--in order that the things that cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire. (Heb 12:22-29 ESV)
These books of the Bible that have prophecies on the return of the King of Israel - Psalms, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamenations, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Micah, Zephaniah, and Zechariah all have references to daughters:
daugthers of Zion
daughters of Judah
daughters of Jerusalem
daughters of my people
daughters of my city
daughter of Babylon
daughter of Egypt
daugthers of the nations
daughter of the king of the south
daughter of women
End times prophecy cannot be completely understood until we know who these "daughters" are and what "mother" they came from. If we want to know what happens to the Church in the end times, then we have to study these daughters! To know who the daughters are, you have to know the story of their mothers.
Those who were well-fed hire themselves out for a piece of bread, but those who were hungry hunger no more. Even the woman who was childless gives birth to seven children, but the mother of many children grieves all alone. "The LORD kills, and he gives life. He makes people go down to the grave, and he raises them up again. The LORD causes poverty and grants wealth. He humbles people; he also promotes them. He raises the poor from the dust. He lifts the needy from the trash heap in order to make them sit with nobles and even to make them inherit a glorious throne. "The pillars of the earth are the LORD'S. He has set the world on them."
(1Sa 2:5-8 GW)
"Sing, O barren one, who did not bear; break forth into singing and cry aloud, you who have not been in labor! For the children of the desolate one will be more than the children of her who is married," says the LORD. "Enlarge the place of your tent, and let the curtains of your habitations be stretched out; do not hold back; lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes. For you will spread abroad to the right and to the left, and your offspring will possess the nations and will people the desolate cities. "Fear not, for you will not be ashamed; be not confounded, for you will not be disgraced; for you will forget the shame of your youth, and the reproach of your widowhood you will remember no more. For your Maker is your husband, the LORD of hosts is his name; and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer, the God of the whole earth he is called. For the LORD has called you like a wife deserted and grieved in spirit, like a wife of youth when she is cast off, says your God. For a brief moment I deserted you, but with great compassion I will gather you. In overflowing anger for a moment I hid my face from you, but with everlasting love I will have compassion on you," says the LORD, your Redeemer. "This is like the days of Noah to me: as I swore that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth, so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you, and will not rebuke you. For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed," says the LORD, who has compassion on you.
(Isa 54:1-10 ESV)
I have already explained the story of the mothers in "Basic Love Training". Please review these lessons:
